Delete conversation data and check what deletion covers

Deleting a conversation is a specific action, not a universal eraser. A local session, a screenshot you saved, publisher account records and provider processing records can have different lifecycles. Work through those layers deliberately, and keep cancellation separate from deletion.

Inventory the copies you actually created

Start with the session history on the device you used. Then check whether you copied text into notes, saved a screenshot, shared an excerpt or created a separate file. A conversation deleted from one view does not necessarily remove a manually saved copy in another app.

Avoid creating a new sensitive export just to build the inventory. Record the categories and locations rather than reproducing the content. If you need something for your own records, decide that before a destructive action, and consider whether retaining the copy defeats your deletion goal.

Use verified local controls carefully

Review the delete action shown by your installed version and read its confirmation. Does it describe a single session, all local history or a broader profile? Do not assume that clearing visible text and removing the entire underlying record mean the same thing.

For GPT Realtime Assistant, session organization and local history are documented, but this guide does not assert an unverified public in-app backend-account deletion control. If the current UI does not clearly describe the scope, ask support before treating a local delete as removal of server-side records.

Ask precise questions about other records

A support request can name the account or device through the publisher’s verification process and specify the data category you want addressed. Ask what will be deleted, what must be retained and how confirmation is provided. Do not include an entire private transcript unless the process actually requires it.

A useful request is: “Please explain how to request deletion of publisher-held account or service records associated with my use, separately from local sessions.” This is more actionable than “Delete everything everywhere,” which may cover parties and copies the publisher does not control.

Keep provider retention separate

OpenAI’s API documentation explains that application state and abuse-monitoring records are distinct, and eligible retention controls depend on configuration. It does not establish the actual retention setting of this app’s organization. This guide makes no Zero Data Retention claim.

A third-party app using an API is not the same storage context as a consumer chatbot account. Do not assume deleting a ChatGPT conversation deletes an unrelated app’s API activity, or that deleting the app reverses prior processing. Ask the publisher about the actual provider path when that question matters.

Cancel billing through the correct channel

Deleting data or uninstalling an app is not a subscription cancellation procedure. Apple provides subscription management through your Apple Account settings. Check the subscription’s status there if your goal includes stopping renewal. Conversely, cancellation is not a request to delete session content.

After taking the actions you chose, verify the local history and any independently saved copies, and keep non-sensitive confirmations of support requests or cancellation. If a shared recipient retained a copy, address that separately. The outcome should be a clear record of what was removed and what remains outside the action’s scope.

FAQ

Does uninstalling cancel my Apple subscription?

No. Manage the subscription through Apple’s subscription controls and verify its renewal status.

Does this guide promise immediate deletion from every provider?

No. The scope and retention conditions differ by record and service. Use the publisher’s verified support process for unanswered questions.
